The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the foundation of military leadership in India, where selected cadets of the Army, Navy, and Air Force receive world-class training before moving to their respective service academies for advanced professional preparation. The NDA entrance examination is conducted twice a year by UPSC and is known as one of the most competitive defence exams in the country.
The written examination consists of 120 multiple-choice questions from Mathematics and 150 questions from the General Ability Test. To succeed, candidates must build a strong foundation in Mathematics, English, General Knowledge, and current affairs.
Along with the written exam, candidates must clear the five-day SSB interview process, which evaluates psychological strength, leadership qualities, communication skills, teamwork, and overall personality.

1. Nationality
The candidate must be a citizen of India or meet the nationality conditions specified in the official notification.
2. Age Limit
Candidates must be between 16.5 to 19.5 years. Exact age criteria should always be verified from the latest UPSC notification.
3. Marital Status
Only unmarried male and female candidates are eligible to apply. Candidates must remain unmarried during the training period.
4. Educational Qualification
For Army Wing: Candidates must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 from any stream.
For Air Force and Navy: Candidates must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics.
5. Physical Standards
Candidates must meet the required physical and medical standards, including height, weight, and fitness criteria as per defence guidelines.
The NDA exam consists of two stages: the written examination and the SSB interview. Both stages are equally important for final selection.
